I was born on the big island of Hawaii, raised on tofu and carob by hippy parents who taught me how to catch my first wave at age 10.
It was from that first moment that surfing grabbed me. I surfed competitively throughout my high school and college years, hooking up with sponsors and traveling throughout California.
Upon graduating I quit competitive surfing to travel further afield. Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tahiti, Rapa Nui, all over South and Central America, Puerto Rico, Spain, Indonesia… always looking for that next adventure, next wave, next ride in the mountains.
I originally started mountain biking because I was frustrated with the crowds in the water, and sought solitude in the hills. I'm an adrenaline junkie though, so it wasn’t long before I was riding for the rush of flying downhill on the single tracks as much as anything else.
Mountain biking is one facet to my life, along with being a 3rd grade teacher, a surf instructor, a wife and a mother. On her insistence, I stood my daughter up on her first wave at age 20 months. I have to admit that was truly the best ride of my life, so far…
